Privacy Policy
Nova Cam

Nova Cam is a local-first Android camera app for capturing photos and videos. This policy explains how camera and microphone access, captured media, device capability information, and app settings are handled.

01 Overview

Nova Cam is designed for on-device camera capture.

Nova Cam provides photo capture, short and standard video recording, manual and continuous focus, zoom, flash, timer, aspect-ratio controls, filters, optional photo watermarking, and other camera controls.

We do not currently operate a Nova Cam account system, remote sync service, advertising integration, or analytics backend. The Android app does not request internet access and does not transmit camera content to VritraSec.

Important

This policy describes the current open-source Android application. If a future release adds cloud, analytics, advertising, or account features, this policy will be updated before those features are released.

02 Information Stored

Nova Cam stores media and preferences needed for camera operation.

Nova Cam may store the following information locally on your device:

Captured photos

JPEG images you choose to capture, including an optional on-image watermark when enabled.

Recorded videos

MP4 videos you choose to record, with microphone audio only when permission is granted.

Camera preferences

Grid, shutter sound, watermark, mirror selfie, haptics, contrast, timer, ratio, and related local choices.

Device camera profile

Locally displayed capability values such as lens count, zoom range, flash, HDR, stabilization, and video quality support.

Latest media reference

Nova Cam queries Android MediaStore for its latest locally captured photo or video to show the gallery thumbnail.

Permission state

A small local preference records whether microphone permission was requested so the app does not repeatedly prompt after denial.

03 Local Storage

Your media and Nova Cam preferences are stored on your device.

Photos are saved through Android MediaStore, normally under Pictures/NovaCam. Videos are saved through Android MediaStore, normally under Movies/NovaCam. Your device gallery and other authorized apps may display this media according to Android permissions.

App preferences are stored in Nova Cam's private Android app storage. Clearing app data or uninstalling Nova Cam removes those private preferences, but media saved to shared MediaStore may remain until you delete it.

Android system backup may also process app data depending on your device, Android version, and backup settings. Android system backup is handled by the operating system or backup provider, not by Nova Cam servers.

04 Camera & Media

Camera frames are processed to provide the features you select.

Live camera frames are used on-device for preview, focus, exposure, zoom, filter thumbnails, and capture. Selected photo filters, ratio cropping, orientation normalization, mirror selfie behavior, and optional watermarking are applied locally during photo processing.

Video is recorded locally using the highest compatible recording quality reported by the active camera and device encoder. Nova Cam does not add a watermark to recorded video.

Nova Cam does not perform facial recognition, identity matching, biometric enrollment, or server-side processing of camera imagery.

Opening the gallery preview sends an Android view request for the selected local media item. The compatible gallery or media app you choose then handles it.

05 Settings & Device Profile

Preferences and capability details stay in local app storage.

Nova Cam stores settings such as shutter sound, grid, keep-awake behavior, watermark, mirror selfie, control haptics, and high contrast locally using Android preferences.

The Device Camera Profile reads capability information exposed by CameraX and Android, including available same-facing lenses, native zoom range, flash, HDR, stabilization, Ultra HDR, and supported or selected video quality.

This technical capability information is shown to you inside Settings and is not uploaded to VritraSec.

06 Data Sharing

Nova Cam does not sell or upload your camera media.

Nova Cam does not sell personal data and does not upload live camera frames, photos, videos, audio, settings, or device camera profile information to a VritraSec-operated server.

  • Android CameraX, MediaStore, and the device media framework process capture operations locally.
  • When you open the VritraSec website, your external browser handles that request under its own privacy practices.
  • When you open captured media, the gallery or media application you select receives the local media URI.
  • Android system backup or device transfer may process private app preferences according to your Android and backup-provider settings.
07 Permissions

Nova Cam requests only camera and optional microphone access.

  • Camera: required for the live viewfinder, focus, zoom, photo capture, and video recording. If denied, Nova Cam cannot provide camera functionality and offers retry or Android Settings access.
  • Microphone: used only to include sound in videos. If denied, photo features remain available and video can be recorded silently.

Permissions can be reviewed or changed at any time in Android system settings. Nova Cam does not request location, contacts, phone, notification, advertising ID, or broad legacy storage permissions.

Camera and microphone permissions are not used for advertising, analytics, user profiling, or cross-app tracking.

08 Retention

Captured media remains until you or another authorized app removes it.

Photos and videos saved to Android MediaStore remain under your control and may remain after Nova Cam is uninstalled. Delete them using your gallery, file manager, or another authorized Android media tool.

Private preferences remain until you clear Nova Cam app data, uninstall the app, or they are restored or transferred by Android system backup features.

09 Your Choices

You control the data and permissions used by Nova Cam.

  • Grant, deny, or revoke camera and microphone access in Android Settings.
  • Record videos without audio when microphone access is unavailable.
  • Enable or disable watermarking and mirror selfie behavior.
  • Choose filters, ratios, timers, grid, haptics, and other local settings.
  • Review, share, edit, or delete captured media using compatible Android apps.
  • Clear private preferences from Android app settings or uninstall Nova Cam.
10 Children's Privacy

Nova Cam is not designed to knowingly collect children's personal information.

Nova Cam does not use a VritraSec-operated account system or remote backend, and VritraSec does not knowingly collect children's personal information through the app. Camera use by children should be supervised as appropriate.

11 Changes

This policy may be updated as Nova Cam changes.

We may update this policy when Nova Cam adds, removes, or changes features that affect camera processing, media storage, permissions, external services, or server usage. The effective date above identifies the current version.
